ICMIF relaunches its Advanced Management Course with the return to an in-person event

Following a three-year hiatus caused by the pandemic, ICMIF has announced that it is relaunching its Advanced Management Course (AMC) as an in-person event in 2023. The AMC will take place on 8-12 May in Manchester (UK).

The course will feature new content on leading with purpose and how to activate strategy at mutual/cooperative insurers, distilling the essence of purpose in a complex world into a single, simple but powerful integrated model of behaviour and leadership. The course will equip leaders from ICMIF member organisations with new mindsets and capabilities to enable them to lead with purpose.

For over 20 years, managers from ICMIF member organisations from over 50 countries have praised the course for the ways in which it helped them to enhance both their own performance and that of their organisation.

The ICMIF Advanced Management Course offers a unique opportunity to:

  • Distil the essence of leading with purpose in a complex world into a single, simple but powerful integrated model of behaviour and leadership.
  • Unleash the power of purpose inherent to most mutual and cooperative insurers through personal reflection and small group discussion with fellow mutual insurance leaders.
  • Tackle your current challenges today through peer-to-peer consultancy and tackle your future issues through the ICMIF AMC alumni group.

Speaking about the course, Mike Ashurst, Vice-President, Reinsurance and Professional Development, said: “Participants at the AMC will acquire tools and frameworks, built on insights from behavioural economics, to transform how they can lead their teams to make sense of evolving challenges and how they can work together to drive their organisations to fulfil their respective purpose. Crucially, they do this with the support of peers from mutual insurers from around the world, both during and after the course.”

Who should attend?

This course is aimed at senior managers and leaders of change from mutual or cooperative insurers who lead teams which are required to tackle complex situations, formulating strategies to achieve their organisation’s purpose, and leading programmes that translate strategy into action.

Participants of the Advanced Management Course include a mix of technical insurance and non-technical people, reflecting the typical make-up of a mutual/cooperative insurer.

Participants must be comfortable holding strategic conversations in English.

Benefits of the course

Alumni of the Advanced Management Course report improved outcomes following their attendance on the course. Participants emerge with new approaches to help them maximise their impact in a complex world.

For ICMIF members keen to understand the benefits of the course, Mike Ashurst offers the following insights: “Alumni of the Advanced Management Course report improved personal performance following their attendance on the course. Many describe it as “the fog clearing” as the models, frameworks and tools they have acquired during the course are put into use once they have returned to the workplace. What may have previously seemed like unrelated areas of leadership and management become a simple, integrated, mutually reinforcing approach to finding solutions to their challenges. In this way, prior participants have said they arrive with expertise and leave with wisdom.”

A previous AMC participant, Christoph Koch, R+V Re (Germany), said: “After attending the AMC everything made more sense in my professional work as an underwriter, coach and agile product owner, but also in my private life. It gave me the confidence to apply the ideas and methods I learnt on the course actively within our company and to lead the change with everybody on board and feeling comfortable and positive.”
